Are you moving soon? Considering storing some of your things long term? If you answered yes to either of these questions, you will likely be in need of some moving boxes in the near future.
All things equal, you are likely better off opting for smaller boxes over larger ones whenever possible. Small boxes, needless to say, are a lot more mobile and cause a lot less strain on your back or those of the movers. Bigger boxes may provide more convenience, however, as you are able to store more of your belongings in one box as opposed to having them scattered over multiple ones. This problem can be negotiated through good labeling, but this of course requires more attention and effort, and many people want to finish packing their things as quickly and painlessly as possible. Different strokes for different folks, as they say.
When it comes to boxes, there are several options available. Cardboard is the tried and tested industry standard, as it is light and reliable, though plastic Tupperware-type containers can provide a more sturdy option. Though this comes with a certain weight penalty, it provides a green alternative to cardboard which is not always guaranteed to be recycled or reused after a move.
Whichever you choose, you’ll want to keep each box to under 50lbs, as for most people 50lbs is the upper limit of what can be moved comfortably (uncomfortably?) without another person’s help.
At Storage Dover, we can help you choose the right box for your needs.
